Meet Jillian, Our June Guest at Homes of Hope!

When I scheduled my surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center I applied to multiple organizations for affordable lodging near the Center. It was very short notice but fortunately for me, Homes of Hope came through! Because surgery is not historically done on my type and stage of cancer, I had to travel from NJ to Houston for this cutting-edge surgery.

Homes of Hope provided me with a a comfortable and very convenient place to stay leading up to, and during recovery from, my cancer surgery at MD Anderson. My husband and son accompanied me and it was so much better than being in a hotel room during the recovery period! We were able to make it our temporary home during the whole ordeal.

There was plenty of room for the three of us to spread out in the condo and not be on top of each other. The adjustable bed in the master bedroom and the recliners in the living room were great for someone recovering from surgery. I was instructed to walk a lot post surgery and the long, LONG corridors in the condo building afforded me a comfortable, climate-controlled environment in which to walk, sometimes in my sneakers and sometimes in my slippers! My husband took advantage of the pool and hot tub as well as the gym.

I am grateful that Homes of Hope had room for us during my time of need. Many thanks to Alyssa and the Reaumond Foundation for facilitating my stay.

Though our mission focuses on supporting pancreatic cancer patients, we’re grateful we could offer Jillian and her family the comfort, space, and peace they needed during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
